Learn to Sail
During the sailing season, The Napier Sailing Club offers a number of sailing classes designed for different ages, levels, and groups of people! It doesn’t matter if you’re 8 or 80 years old, our Learn to Sail courses run regularly and we have something for everyone! Check them out below to work out which would be best for you!
JUNIOR LEARN TO SAIL
Our Junior Learn to Sail courses make use of Optimist dinghies and are designed for 7 - 12 year-olds. With an initial focus on confidence and boat handling, as the sailor’s confidence and skills grow, the class offers opportunities for fleet racing where they can acquire racing skills!

SCHOOL’s LEARN TO SAIL
Our School Learn to Sail courses make use of Elliot 6’s or Optimist dinghies and are designed for 7 - 16 year olds. With an initial focus on confidence and boat handling, as the sailor’s confidence and skills grow! Course are Tailored to suit Schools requirement.

ADULT LEARN TO SAIL
Aided by HB Nautical Trust, who provide our Elliott 6’s, we offer hands-on learn to sail courses for adults! Groups and individuals are welcome!
With a little theory work on the side to give you a complete understanding of how to sail, stay safe, and stay in control of your boat, completing a Learn to Sail course provides opportunities to crew onboard club boats in local races and regattas or move on to captaining your own boat.
WOMEN’S SAILING
On Wednesday nights during the sailing season, we have classes that focus on having fun whilst building confidence and skill in a friendly environment!
We provide coaching support for learning and developing skills as well as support boats and fun races! Come along to learn the basic principles of sailing and have some fun and laughs along the way.
